Hanthana Mountain Range Private individual

The Hanthana Mountain Range, situated southwest of Kandy City and next to the University of Peradeniya, boasts a maximum height of 3800 ft. This range includes seven peaks, the highest being "Ura Kanda."

The Hanthana Mountain Range is a popular spot for bird watching, hiking, and camping. The mountain has also been featured in movies and music videos. The peaks offer breathtaking views of Kandy City, Knuckles Mountain Range, the hills of Sabaragamuwa, and Dolosbage Range of Aranayake.

It is recommended to begin hiking by 9 AM and descend by 3 PM since it can get dark suddenly, and it is easy to get lost while looking for your way. Local university students call this peak Adara Kanda, and it is a favorite spot for them since Peradeniya University is located nearby.

When trekking through the hills of Hanthana, the Hanthana Viharaya is a must-visit. Built during the time of the Kandyan Kingdom, it is situated 10 km away from Kandy City on the highest elevation in Kandy.

To reach Hanthana Mountain Range, take Baladaksha Mawatha from Kandy, then take Getambe Kandy Road, turn right onto Keppetipola Road, and finally turn left to reach the destination.
